Thursday Sep 15, 2022
Thursday Sep 15, 2022
Phil and Josh return for E134 of the GSP to discuss the busy motorsports weekend along with NFL Week 1 - two words: phe nom in al...Darrell "Bubba" Wallace won his second career Cup Series race at Kansas locking the No.45 team into the second round of the Cup Owner Points playoffs. Issues for the likes of Kevin Harvick and pole sitter Tyler Reddick leave them on the outside looking in with Bristol Night Race cutoff looming. For Reddick, further news surrounds his situation since Kyle Busch's announcement joining RCR took place after recording.
Noah Gragson won for the fifth time in 2022 in a rain-shortened XFinity race at Kansas. During recording, the cutoff stood at 13 points between Sheldon Creed and Ryan Seig on the bump. However, Jeremy Clements appeal was heard and his win was reinstated. For the Trucks, John Hunter Nemechek won for the 2nd time in 2022 at a crucial point in his career, making a last-lap pass on Carson Hocevar who was trying to back into the Round of 8. Hocevar and three-time champion Matt Crafton were eliminated with Bristol on the horizon.
IndyCar crowned Will Power as a two-time champion after he broke the pole record long held by Mario Andretti the day before. Josef Newgarden was left to wonder about his season after winning five times and coming from tail back as Rusty would say to finish second on Sunday. The guys covered other key news items that were in play prior to recent announcements.

In the XFinity race, Gragson gets his 4th victory of 2022 after last lap contact between Sheldon Creed and Kyle Larson. Even with the action between those three, AJ Allmendinger gets closer to a possible regular season title.
Speaking of titles, the IndyCar Series ran at Portland with Scott McLaughlin winning his third race and pole of the 2022 season, holding off points leader and teammate Will Power. However, Power still holds a 20-point lead heading into the season finale at Laguna Seca over Scott Dixon and Josef Newgarden. Phil and Josh discuss all of the happenings and their thoughts on those still in and those who were eliminated.
Formula 1 saw the usual with Max Verstappen winning the Dutch GP, but it was not as straightforward as it has been at most races, with Mercedes having pace and a possibility to win. Multiple yellows affected the strategy and led to the eventual result, leaving some like Lewis Hamilton pretty unhappy.
Ferrari continues to show why they are closer to Mercedes than Red Bull with their strategy calls and constant errors - mostly focused to Carlos Sainz at Zandvoort. 23XI also announced that Bubba Wallace will be racing in the Owner's Championship playoffs after a number swap took place between their teams. Also, accidents in the Gen7/Next Gen brought back to the forefront during Playoff Media Day with multiple drivers speaking out.
Formula 1 saw Max Verstappen come from 14th to win his home Grand Prix in Spa for the first time legitimately (kind of like the championship soon enough too). Accidents with the Gen7/NextGen car have become more of a talking point with the continued absence of Kurt Busch and giving up his waiver to race for a title along with other drivers speaking of the after effects of incidents being worse. The crew get into that and what it may mean for the future regarding the car and for the drivers themselves.

Phil and Josh return for E126 of the GSP to discuss the craziness that ensued at Pocono Raceway which saw the winner and second place driver disqualified along with plenty of penalties outside of this. Denny Hamlin crossed the line first with pole-sitter Kyle Busch finishing second and no selling his car owner Joe Gibbs in the process but William Clyde Elliott II took the win after post-race inspection due to tape underneath the wrap.
The guys discuss all the penalties, the racing and the crowd itself with The Tricky Triangle having a great turnout even though it was boiling hot. Ty Gibbs made his Cup debut in place of Kurt Busch who was ruled out after concussion like symptoms from a qualifying crash and did a solid job. Noah Gragson held off Gibbs the day before in the XFinity while Chandler Smith put himself in great position for Truck Series championship after a dominant performance in the Truck Series regular season finale.
For the IndyCar Series, Josef Newgarden dominated race one at Iowa Speedway and was on his way to another win before crashing and eventually having to be flown out of the track. The beneficiary from Newgarden's rare error was Pato O'Ward, who reinserts himself into the title battle. Phil and Josh go over the races and points leading into Indianapolis Road Course.
At the French Grand Prix, Max Verstappen benefits from another Charles Leclerc error/Ferrari mechanical issue which saw Leclerc crash out of an F1 race lead for the third time in 2022. Mercedes with Sir Lewis Hamilton and George Russell gave The Silver Arrows their first double podium of the season with Ferrari screwing up Carlos Sainz strategy.
On the GSP Roundup, Phil goes over F2 and W Series in France along with adding F3 at Hungary, Formula E at London, Supercars at The Bend and World Superbike at the Czech Republic. The guys go over NASCAR Cup/XFinity at IMS Road Course along with the Truck Series Playoff opener at Lucas Oil Raceway Park along with picks.
Phil and Josh also preview the IndyCar race at the Indy Road Course along with the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix before NFL Talk, Josh's Sim Segment and the Show Close.
